‘Sense of Sewing’ project began from the vision of young entrepreneurial thinkers who participated in the Generational Leaders WOMEN Program.
Generational Leaders WOMEN seeks to shape future-ready leaders who are self-aware and other-aware. Delivered by The Future Leader Group, in partnership with Cabra-Vale Diggers. Over 10 weeks, young women were given the opportunity to build partnerships with inspiring community organisations. CORE worked alongside these participants from local schools and organisations to spark entrepreneurial thinking in addressing real challenges for women in the community.
Through project management, CORE Community Services put vision into practice and produced the Sense of Sewing project. Partnering with TAFE NSW to deliver a tailored program for newly arrived Migrant and Refugee Women in the Fairfield LGA.
Sense of Sewing brings diverse women together to learn basic sewing and design skills, improve English language skills, build life skills, form friendships, and provide pathways to employment and educational opportunities.
Sense of Sewing is a creative initiative that goes beyond the classroom, as students work towards creating personalised garments for the Sense of Sewing fashion show.
