Refugee Week Art Launch in Ballarat
Comedian Tom Ballard, host of the ABC’s ‘Tonightly with Tom Ballard’ will launch an exhibition of paintings by a refugee artist still in detention. There will also be a performance by well-known rapper/slam poet Abe Nouk.
Ballarat members of Grandmothers Against Detention of Refugee Children (GADRC) who visit the artist in the Melbourne detention centre MITA, have secured these beautiful, evocative and sometimes challenging paintings. The City of Ballarat has made the exhibition possible.
This is a free event and all are welcome. It is sponsored by GADRC as an introduction to Refugee Week. You are invited to enjoy the performances and show your support for this talented young emerging artist.
Come early to ensure your free souvenir program with samples of the artist’s work and poems. The venue is family friendly. Complimentary refreshments will be offered and a coffee van will be on site.
